Chinatown/Him Mark Lai Branch Library Rededication

The rededication of the Chinatown/Him Mark Lai Branch Library will be held on Saturday, December 10, 12-2pm (Community Meeting Room).  The library was renamed to honor the late Chinese American historian Him Mark Lai.
Program includes lion dancing, unveiling of new library plaques, book launch for Him Mark Lai's autobiography, film and refreshments.  Program will be presented in English and Cantonese.

The Chinatown Branch Library will be closing early on Wednesday, November 23 at 5 pm. The library will be closed on Thursday, November 24, and Friday, November 25 for Thanksgiving. We will resume our regular opening hours on Saturday November 26.

Song of the Silk Road:a book talk and calligraphy demonstration by author Mingmei Yip on Nov. 19, 2011

On Saturday, November 19, 2011 (2:30-4 p.m.), author, artist and musician Mingmei Yip will discuss her latest book Song of the Silk RoadAfter talking about her novel, Mingmei will demonstrate calligraphy based on a Buddhist sutra and talisman discovered on the Silk Road. A book sale and signing will follow the performance.  This program will be in English only.

2011年11月19日(星期六)下午2:30-4:00在華埠圖書館社區會議室,作家、畫家和音樂家葉明媚將會與讀者分享她的最新作品《絲路之歌》。在與讀者分享完她的書作後,葉明媚將以在絲綢之路上所發現的佛經和符錄為靈感,為大家表演書法。表演後將有作者售簽活動。該項活動以英語進行。

The Woman Who Could Not Forget: Iris Chang Before and Beyond the Rape of Nanking, A Memoir on Saturday, September 24, 2:30-4pm

A moving, illuminating memoir about the life of world-famous author and historian, Iris Chang, as told by her mother, Ying Ying Chang.

重訪舊華埠1931-1951新書發表會在9月17日(星期六), 下午2點半至4點

舊金山華埠原居民Lyle Jan蒞臨華埠圖書館, 談及他的英文新書《重訪舊華埠1931-1951》。這是作者另一本書《中國2227—很久很久以前》的續集。故事內容建基於真實事件,縷述了那個時代華人移民勞工階層的生活面貌, 以及他們的下一代。

Author Reading: Old Chinatown—Revisited on Saturday, September 17, 2:30-4pm

Please join us as San Francisco Chinatown native Lyle Jan talks about and reads from his new book Old Chinatown—Revisited: Memoirs of Old San Francisco Chinatown, CIRCA: 1931-1951. This sequel to the author’s first book China 2227—Long, Long Ago is based on true events and tell about the life and times of the laboring class of Chinese immigrants and their descendents who lived in Chinatown over half a century ago.  A book sale and signing will follow the program.

Laptop lending and changes to public computer time

Starting Tuesday, August 30, the public access computers will transition from 30 minute time slots to 1 hour time slots. Patrons will also be able to check out laptop computers from the circulation desk. Laptop and desktop computers that require an SFPL library card can be used in any combination for a total of one hour daily.

《升級》 (Level Up) - 楊謹倫(Gene Luen Yang) 與Thien Pham 的漫畫小說新書發表會在7月9日(星期六), 2點半至4點

電腦遊戲或醫學院!《美生中國人》 (American Born Chinese) 的作者楊謹倫(Gene Yang) 與漫畫藝術家Thien Pham會蒞臨圖書館,暢談他們最新出版的漫畫小說《升級》(Level Up)。這個魔幻寫實故事描述主人公藉由電腦遊戲逃脫來自亞裔父母的壓力。

READ! Record the time you spend reading on your online record or at your library. There will be one grand prize for children who read for 10 hours; teens who read for 30 hours and adults who read for 40 hours. And everybody who reads for 40 hours from June 1 to July 31 has a chance to enter our citywide Super Raffle!
